The University of Sussex has climbed 17 places to equal 51st place in the Guardian’s University Guide 2026, published on Saturday 13 September.
The guide ranks UK universities by subject and examines factors including student satisfaction, staff numbers, spending and career prospects amongst other measures.
In this latest version, Sussex has four subjects ranked in the top 10 in the subject tables: Social Work (3rd), Chemistry and History of Art (both at 5th) and Marketing and Public Relations (8th).
Across the wider metrics, we have seen an impressive rise in terms of student satisfaction with teaching, along with a smaller rise in satisfaction with feedback.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil said: “The Guardian University Guide is used by many prospective students in deciding which universities to visit for Open Days and to explore further as they start their application journey. It is pleasing to see our improvement across the National Student Survey themes helping to move us to an improved overall position in this important guide, and to see four subjects ranked in the top 10 nationally, one from each Faculty. Thank you to everyone across the University who has contributed in a myriad of ways to improving our students’ experience at Sussex, and hence to this year’s results.”
