Luke Tryl, Executive Director of More in Common
Our next Inclusive Sussex: In Conversation event on Tuesday 18 November at 5.30pm features Luke Tryl, Executive Director of More in Common, a think tank and research agency which seeks to understand polarisation and to work on initiatives to tackle division in our society.
We welcome staff, students and members of the community to book your place at the event where Luke will be talking about ‘Finding common ground in public opinion’. He will discuss the organisation's latest insights into UK public opinion, with a focus on the recent ‘Shattered Britain’ study, which looks at the public’s exhaustion with crumbling public services and leaders who don’t seem to understand what ordinary people want, and how people appear to be losing faith in the system itself. Using More in Common's unique values-based segmentation model - The British Seven - he'll touch on Britons’ perspectives on topics including EDI, individual agency, freedom of speech, appetite for change, climate change and immigration.
Following his talk, a panel of Sussex academics will join Luke in discussion:
- Chair: Professor David Ruebain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Culture, Equality and Inclusion)
- Dr Hannah Richter, Assistant Professor in Politics, Department of Politics
- Professor Paul Taggart, Professor of Politics, Department of Politics
Professor Ruebain will then chair an audience Q&A. Following the discussion, you are welcome to join a short drinks reception. Tickets for this event are free, but booking is essential as places are limited.
