The University’s Health and Safety team achieved outstanding recognition at this year's University Safety and Health Association (USHA) awards, winning one category and placing as runner-up in two others.
Infrastructure and Facility Safety
The team won the category of 'Infrastructure and Facility Safety' for implementing 'Gen 2' data harvesting technology for the University's fire alarm system. The innovative approach taken by the team has significantly improved monitoring and safety standards across campus.
Further recognition
The University team was runner-up in two additional categories:
- Fire Safety: Where we gained recognition for our comprehensive Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) work with students, demonstrating the University's commitment to inclusive safety.
- Health and Safety Excellence: Here there was acknowledgement for our DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) work.
Katie Bennett, Associate Director of Health and Safety for Sussex said: “I am incredibly proud of the team for this win and two runner-up positions in these important industry awards. The achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of the team in working for the highest standards of safety on campus, and the support we receive from leadership and our community in ensuring we achieve those standards.”
The USHA annual awards recognise outstanding practice and innovation in university safety and health management across the sector.
