The Meeting House at the University of Sussex
The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Charter Staff Survey is open until Wednesday 4 March 2026.
This short survey supports the University’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion and our institutional commitments under the Advance HE Athena Swan Charter for gender equality and the Race Equality Charter.
The survey covers themes such as recruitment and progression, mentoring, wellbeing, policy awareness, and local context, where these relate to gender and race equality. It should take around 2-4 minutes to complete. Participation is anonymised and entirely optional (see privacy notice below), but we would like to hear from a broad range of staff to inform our future work.
You can also complete the survey on a mobile or tablet by scanning the QR code below.
Why we are running the survey
Athena Swan and the Race Equality Charter are sector frameworks that support universities to review organisational culture, identify inequalities and develop evidence-based actions to improve gender and race equity. The University is due to submit its next institutional Athena Swan application in November 2026 and is currently at the midpoint review stage of its Race Equality Charter work.
This survey sits alongside evidence gathered through the Staff Survey 2024 and the Staff Pulse Survey 2025. Alongside quantitative data, understanding lived experience and hearing from marginalised voices is an important part of how we approach EDI and culture work, in line with the Inclusive Sussex framework. The feedback gathered will help us review progress, understand culture and develop future actions.
Privacy notice
This survey is anonymous and participation is optional. Individual responses cannot be viewed by anyone. The EDI Unit will have access to the survey dashboard only to run aggregated reports. Reports will not be produced for groups below the minimum reporting threshold to protect anonymity. Findings will be discussed in aggregate with relevant steering groups and leads to support action planning.
Thank you for taking the time to share your views.
