Last week, Shawcross building was successfully switched over to our new network as part of the Network Replacement Programme (NRP), which is upgrading the University’s internet to improve performance and reliability across campus.
As part of the switch, the team carried out checks to make sure the network can automatically shift to a backup if something goes wrong and tested how well it performs under heavy use. All wired and wireless devices in Shawcross are now running on the new system. With this work succesfully completed, the NRP team also took the opportunity to upgrade the network in the new Health and Wellbeing Centre before it opens on Monday 15 June.
This marks the first step in gradually rolling out the new network to the buildings we work in. The NRP team will continue to monitor performance in Shawcross and the Health & Wellbeing Centre over the next few weeks to make sure everything is running as expected before moving on to other buildings.
Once completed, the upgrade will support our Recovery and Rebuilding Plan and Digital and Data Futures strategic goals by providing a faster, greener, future‑ready internet to support our everyday activity.
What’s next
The next building to have the new network turned on will be the Student Centre, with works taking place over the summer (exact dates to be confirmed).
