The countdown starts: getting ready for Open Day

The countdown to our autumn Open Days has begun. On Saturday 10 October and Saturday 7 November, we will welcome prospective students and their families to campus to discover what it’s like to study at Sussex.
For visitors, an Open Day is an exciting opportunity to explore campus (and Brighton), meet students and academics, find out about courses and see what facilities we have to offer. Behind the scenes, it’s the result of months of planning and a huge team effort involving colleagues across the University.
Bringing Sussex to life
A key part of the Open Day experience is meeting the people who make Sussex what it is – our academics, researchers and current students – and being able to say ‘yes, I can see myself belonging here and feeling part of this community’.
Across our four Faculties, colleagues are preparing subject sessions, talks, demonstrations and activities designed to give visitors a taste of learning and research at Sussex. These encounters can help prospective students understand where their subject could take them and begin to picture themselves studying here.
Professional Services teams are preparing to showcase the wider student experience, from the Library and student support, to campus facilities and services. Colleagues in Estates, our catering partners, IT and other teams are working behind the scenes to make sure the campus is ready and that everything runs smoothly. Meanwhile, our Student Ambassadors will welcome visitors, share their experiences and help people navigate the day.
An experience that starts before Open Day
The Open Day experience begins long before someone arrives on campus. A prospective student might first see Sussex on social media, hear about us through their school or college, visit a university fair, or find our campaign while researching universities via UCAS or elsewhere. From there, they might explore our website and courses, watch content, register for an Open Day and start planning their visit.
These journeys have already started, and hundreds of young people have already booked their place.
Marketing and communications, digital, student recruitment and colleagues across the University are working together to make every potential student’s journey as clear and helpful as possible – providing the information visitors need and showing them what they can expect when they arrive.
Then, on the day itself, all that planning comes together: visitors can explore Sussex, meet our community, experience our facilities and get a real sense of whether the University could be right for them.
How you can help
You don’t need to be directly involved in running Open Day to play a part. For now, the most useful thing you can do is simple:
Know the dates. Share the dates.
- Saturday 10 October 2026
- Saturday 7 November 2026
... and more to come in 2027!
Think about anyone in your networks who might be considering university – friends, family, neighbours or young people you work with – and make sure they know about the opportunity to visit Sussex.
You can also share Sussex Open Day content through your own networks and social channels. Every share helps us reach another potential student.
The countdown has started – how will you play your part?
