Culture, Equality and Inclusion - Professor David Ruebain

Professor Ruebain's portfolio covers matters of equality, diversity and inclusion across the University, (although responsibilities will sometimes overlap with other Pro-Vice-Chancellors), maintaining and ensuring a positive culture and also supporting and promoting freedom of speech. The work is supported by an Inclusive Sussex Framework and supporting guidance.

Amongst other governance committees, David is a member of the University Executive Board, the University Leadership Forum, Senate and the Council’s Strategy and Performance Committee and he is Chair of the EDI Board.

Education and Students - Professor Kate O'Riordan

Professor O'Riordan’s portfolio covers all matters relating to education and students including work across the Divisions and Faculties of the University, and partners. It draws on strong relationships with the University of Sussex Student Union. The scope of the portfolio extends to all areas of experience and outcomes for current university students, whether they are on campus or remote.

The portfolio is led by Professor O'Riordan, with the Educations and Students Leadership Team (ESLT) [PPTX 61.25KB], which brings together the Division of Student Experience (DSE), the four Faculties, the Division of Libraries, Culture and Heritage (LCH) and the Sussex School for Progressive Futures (SSPF). ESTL works to a strategic plan (Sussex 2035: Strategic Plan for Education and Student Life) and through a committee structure (University Education Committee and sub committees) and projects, including the University's Access and Participation Plan (APP).

Professor Banerjee is the University’s strategic lead for global and civic engagement, establishing and strengthening institutional relationships with stakeholders and partner organisations in the local community as well as internationally.

Research and Innovation - Professor Keith Jones

Professor Jones chairs the University Research and Innovation Committee. His executive responsibilities include leading the Research and Innovation Portfolio which supports Research and Innovation activities within Sussex 2035. Professor Jones is also Chair of the Sussex Innovation Centre Board.
