If you need a standalone site
Canvas should be used in a consistent way to avoid repeating information and overwhelming students with too many messages.
To ensure this, we’ll only create standalone sites for the following reasons related to teaching and learning:
- a site which is a taught module where it does not have or is not able to have a module code and can't be provisioned through the information system.
- a course or programme level site on which you will enrol a cohort for activity directly related to their course, but which is not necessary to duplicate across modules.
- a bespoke online, in-person or self-serve module or course. For example something as part of a funded time limited activity, or a large mandatory module for all students.
Reach out to your School's Learning Technologist or Academic Developer if you need advice. There are usually other ways to achieve what you need without creating more standalone sites.
Requests for a new Canvas site
All requests regardless of intention are to be submitted through the Digital and Creative Media team by filling in their project brief form Note: you are not required to fill in the enitrety of the form, however more info you can give the better.
Requests to 'rollover' existing Canvas sites
For any site that already exists and needs to be created again, or copied, for example Course sites, please fill out our request form. Any requests for sites that don't already exist will not be created and you’ll be redirected to DCM.
